Interesting Facts

A unusual thing about wood ducks is the way they enter the world. Unlike most chicks that are helpless at the time of hatching, wood duck chicks are precocial … meaning that they are born in an advanced stage of maturity and “ready to go”. In fact, within hours of hatching and encouraged by the calls of the mother, wood duck chicks climb up and launch themselves into space in an amazing leap of faith … sometimes from as high as 30 or 40 feet above the ground! The whole event is over within minutes. That is amazing!

2010 Youth Waterfowl Hunt

Provided By

Northwest Indiana Chapter of Waterfowl U.S.A.

During the 2010 Indiana waterfowl season, two youth members of the Northwest Indiana Chapter of Waterfowl U.S.A. received a hunting opportunity at the Jerry Allen Marsh located in Boone Grove, Indiana.

The youth hunters were Braden and Matt. Both youth hunters were able to enjoy the hunt with their fathers and the Northwest Indiana Chapter's vice president, John Jelinek.

During the hunt, Braden bagged an unusual duck, it was a Teal with only one leg. You can see the picture of him holding the teal below.

Both youth hunters were able to bag some ducks during the hunt.

Below are some pictures from their hunt. Click on the images to view a larger size.
