Updated 01/26/2010

We have started 2010 with our annual
nesting program on
both WUSA properties and private ponds. It
is held every
Saturday now thru
completion or “thin
ice”. John Jelinek
is the chapter
coordinator for this
undertaking and we
can always use help
and welcome
scout troops who like to participate for
merit badges, etc.
As a way of
encouraging
participation in
this work, John
implemented a reward
program allowing
participants to hunt
the late Canada
goose season
February 1 thru the
15th on the Don &
Mary Roberts
property in Starke
County IN. Give John
a call for the
details at
219-465-7039 and to
confirm the starting
time on Saturdays
which is usually
9:00 AM but could
change due to the
weather.
Preparations for the annual banquet is also underway
which is a major
fundraiser for the
chapter. Please see
the Chapter events
page for further
details and note
that the date for
2010 was pushed back
due to other booking
at the facility
used.

Due to increased costs the
Chapter had no choice but to raise the price of the 2010 Horicon Goose
Hunt to $600 vs. the
$550 fee charged for the past three years. We still
believe it to be a
good value for the services provided. Just
as clarification,
profits used from
the hunt fund many
of the Chapter
projects and outside
wetland project
commitments for the
year. Again, this
Chapter pays no
salaries to any
members period.

In addition to the Hunt of Lifetime sponsorship we do
every year in
conjunction with the
Horicon Hunt, John
Jelinek is also
looking into
providing a similar
hunt spot under the
Wounded Warriors
Project for those
veterans injured in
the Middle East wars.
We will update this
website with our
progress with this.
Again, any
individual or group
who would like to
sponsor directly in
either of these
rewarding projects
can again contact
John directly at the
above referenced
phone number. To

Warriors Website,

In the fall of 2009
the majority of the
restoration work was
completed for
controlled resting
area on the IN DNR
Kankakee River State
Game Preserve known
to locals as the
“160”. The Chapter
contributed $10,000
to this project
which is mentioned
to provide you
evidence of the use
of your
participation
dollars in our
various events
throughout the year.
In closing stop by
at our booth at the
various events we
attend listed in our
calendar for any
information you
would like on our
organization. Also,
we all miss an
active member of
this Chapter and a
dedicated outdoor
enthusiast, Edgar
Peglow, who passed
on during 2009.
