Updated Chapter News

The 2011 Fall Fun Shoot held in August at Oakwood Gun Club brought out 89 shooters on the Sporting Clay Course with several more participating in the various Fun Shoot stations.  The weather cooperated and all had an enjoyable day.  Thanks to the supporters of the event and WUSA members/families who worked to make this year’s shoot a success.

Dove hunts on  the Robert’ s property had good wing shooting early despite scorching heat but soon changed as did the weather.  Only 2 of the originally planned 3 fields could be hunted this year due to wet spring conditions which prevented the planting of sunflowers in the West field.

Applications for the 2011 Horicon Marsh Goose Hunt closed August 1, 2011, with 42 hunters signing up plus our Wounded Warrior and Hunt of a Lifetime guests bringing the total to 46 who will take to the fields in the Waupun, WI area this October.  The WI DNR has issued 6 goose tags this year for all Horicon Zone applicants.

The Chapter had solicited wish lists from the IN DNR property site managers in the area for which we could contribute to financially as state conservation budgets are obviously at “bare bones” given the current economic situation.  The Board will review the submitted requests to select those projects best in line with the WUSA wetland preservation objectives.

John Jelinek is currently recording the names of the “Woodie” youth members interested in participating in waterfowl and deer hunts on our Jerry Allen Marsh property.  Please refer to the Youth Section of the website for additional information.

 Statement Of Purpose

Waterfowl U.S.A. is a national, non-profit, waterfowl conservation organization dedicated to using funds in the areas in which they are raised for local and state waterfowl habitat projects.

Youth Education Programs

The Northwest Indiana Chapter of Waterfowl U.S.A. realizes that the youth of today will be our leaders of tomorrow. With this in mind, we are working diligently to educate our youth in sound conservation practices. Today's youth needs to be taught and understand that while our waterfowl resource is a renewable resource, our wetlands are a resource that must be protected.
