Jerry Allen
Waterfowl Management
Unit
The Jerry Allen
Waterfowl Management
Unit is the
first purchased
property of
Waterfowl U.S.A.,
Northwest Indiana
Chapter. This 78
acre farm, which was
a drained wetland,
was purchased in
1993. We named it in
honor and
recognition of Mr.
Jerry Allen, the
founder of Waterfowl
U.S.A.
It has really shaped
up to its original
wetlands state. We
had built two dikes,
three islands and a
3 acre goose pasture
at this property. We
kept it mowed all
summer and the geese
are abundant. We
have also installed
new nests here, both
wood duck, mallard
hen houses and goose
platforms.
We plan to
restore many acres
of wetlands. We will
turn around this
wetland destruction
and preserve
America's beauty and
our legacy. God
created this land to
be beautiful. Let's
do our best to keep
it that way.

D. Thomas Sporre
Wildlife Area
The D. Thomas Sporre
Wildlife Area is
the second purchased
property of
Waterfowl U.S.A.,
Northwest Indiana
Chapter. This
project is located
in Lake County, IN
just east of I-65 in
Leroy, Indiana. A 76
acre combination of
native prairie
grasses, other
natural grasses and
plants surround
several bodies of
water to provide a
natural style marsh
for waterfowl and
other wildlife. This
waterfowl habitat
project was named
after D. Thomas
Sporre, who was the
state biologist for
the Indiana
Department of
Natural Resources.
Many long days and
hard labor went into
building this
wetland from this
previously drained
farmland to its
present state of
waterfowl wetland
habitat.

Don & Mary
Roberts
Wildlife Area
The Waterfowl
U.S.A., Northwest
Indiana Chapter has
recently purchased a
210 acre farm on the
Kankakee River with
1.4 miles of river
frontage located
east of Hanna,
Indiana in Starke
County. This 210
acre farm is named
after the chairman
of the Northwest
Indiana Chapter, Don
E. Roberts and wife
Mary. The Don & Mary
Roberts Wildlife
Area
will soon be another
home for ducks,
geese, and other
wildlife. We have
great intentions on
developing a wetland
and several smaller
bodies of water
throughout this
farm, which is
drained wetlands.
Development on this
land will be
starting later this
year and we hope to
soon host a home for
many species of
waterfowl and
wildlife. Limited
hunting will be
available on this
property for
Waterfowl U.S.A.
members. If you are
interested in
finding more out
about this, please
contact us and
request information
about the hunting
opportunities at the
Don & Mary Roberts
Wildlife Area.
